Over a decade ago, a friend shared a story through a photograph. That year, she had just turned 18 and was in her second year of university when she received a special gift from her father. It was five very old but meticulously preserved diaries in which her father had recorded every day from the time her mother was pregnant until she turned four years old.
The diaries captured the struggles her mother faced, such as being unable to eat due to morning sickness and enduring illness without medication for fear of harming the baby, suffering for over ten days before gradually recovering. They chronicled moments from her birth, when she only knew how to cry, to her first smile, first attempts to speak, first steps, first illness, first visit to the hospital, first time calling "mom," and the first time she ate meat. Each moment was captured in just a few words, yet together they painted a picture filled with love. Over 1,300 days, hundreds of thousands of words filled those five diaries.
Her father explained that when he reflected on his own past, he realized he couldn’t remember anything from before the age of four. He wanted to help his daughter preserve those precious moments, so writing in the diaries became his most important task for those four to five years. This way, his daughter would have the most complete memories of her life.
It’s a simple story, but one filled with love.
Years later, when the founder of Picsqueen reconnected with this friend, this story resurfaced. They wondered, could there be a better way to preserve the memories of love?
